Guzaarish: Hrithik and Ash’s next film

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to call his next film Guzaarish! The ace director has signed up Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play the lead roles in the film.

According to Sanjay, Guzaarish will commence early next year on Hrithik’s suggestion. Apparently, Hrithik is busy with Kites, his home production and does not want it get in the way of Sanjay’s film.

Sanjay said that Guzaarish is inspired by the Hollywood flick Prestige but has more Indian flavor to the script.

It is worth mentioning here that Prestige deals about mercy killing. Guzaarish will be produced jointly by UTV Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Vidya Balan smooches Arshan Warsi

Bollywood Actress Vidya Balan is back in a de-glam role with Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Ishqiya’. Going by the trailers, she is playing a simple village belle but has tried some ‘bold’ scenes too. Though there are stories that Arshad doesn’t get along with costars, it’s certainly not true when it comes to his ‘Ishqiya’ costar Vidya Balan. Arshad Warsi tells us that he fondly calls Vidya Balan Giggles. “There’s a story behind this name. Vidya laugh a lot and can’t control herself. She just goes on laughing like crazy. She doesn’t even need someone to crack a joke. Sometimes she used to start laughing in the middle of the shot and then Naseeruddin Shah and I used to wait till she finished her riot,” revealed Arshad Warsi in an exclusive Bollywood Interview.

It’s a big day for Salman

This Friday you can catch three different and exciting films releasing at your nearest theatre. One of them is Salman Khan’s much talked Wanted. The film is directed by none other than Prabhu Deva and produced by Sahara One Motion Pictures and S K Films Enterprises. And who doesn’t know about the film when Boney Kapoor has done extensive marketing for the film. The poster of the film are not only adorning the multiplexes but even the bus stop hoardings in Mumbai. Before the release of film everyone has casted up on their eyes on Salman’s wavy muscles and the shining guns. Salman looks very different in this film as compared to his first film Maine Pyar Kiya, 20 years ago. And why not because the world has changed a lot with time and the current state of world is like war against the underworld.

“It’s an out-and-out thriller, a violent film,” says Salman. Salman has played the role of an arrogant hit man in the film. He has no fears, no loyalties nor the conscience that tends to hinder action. But people still needs such hero in their life. “He takes the action a notch higher by his ruthless killings,” explains Salman.

Salman never played such role before. So did he make some preparation for the role? And he says, “I don’t think anybody prepares for a role.” He later adds, “Maybe Aamir trained his body for one scene in Ghajini and Shah Rukh did that for a song in Om Shanti Om… but I feel if you walk like the character in the film, and you can talk like him, then you’re set. I get that feeling with this role. It’s that kind of film. We need heroes. It’s time for people to stand up against all odds. That’s what this character does.”

Talking more about films, Salman said, “20 years in films have given me a confidence, an intensity that was not there earlier. In Maine Pyar Kiya, I was a kaccha baccha, but if I had to play that role now… that would require mehnat. The innocence, the awkwardness, the naivety, that am-I-doing-it-right feeling that I had for my first role; I would have to create all that now. Life teaches you… and if you want to learn, and you use its lessons at the right time, you’re fine.”

Of course life was not all the time smooth for the actor and he is still paying price for which he didn’t learn early. The film has lots of action sequences, but “The action is different,” says Salman. “I have not had body doubles, and cables have been used in only one or two scenes. It’s not action for the sake of action. The emotion here is at a different plane. This is not a body-body kind of action film. The man’s fight is not from the body, but from his heart. The strength comes from within. He’s like a Parsi, if he believes in something, he has the strength to take on the whole nation!” he adds.

The film also has dance numbers. And one could definitely expect those when the director is ‘rubber man’ Prabhu Deva. “Doing one step took 15 days,” admits Salman.

“But I used to dance a lot, I even entered dance competitions in discotheques till I came of age and realised that to look cool I only needed to stand against pillars! I didn’t know then that if I’d learned break dancing, I’d kick Hrithik’s ass today!” adds the wanted actor.

Madhuri turns winner over Aishwarya

Earlier there were reports that the two dancing divas of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will together judge some dance reality show. And also that the channel is in talks with two of them. However the latest update on it says that Aishwarya has lost the place to Madhuri. Thanks to the exorbitant amount she charged to appear on the show. However Madhuri demanded an affordable price and so will represent one of the teams of the show titled Dance Premier League. The show also promises many other Bollywood stars.

One source revealed, “Madhuri and Aishwarya were both being considered to be the judge for one of the teams. Aishwarya lost out to Madhuri as she quoted an exorbitant amount of money. The makers of the show couldn’t afford her and the scales tipped in Madhuri’s favour as she had demanded an affordable price.”

However, Riku Rakesh Nath, Madhuri’s manager said not going much into details, “The discussion is still on.”

Meanwhile, VP Marketing of the channel, Danish Khan confirmed, “Yes, Madhuri has been chosen to represent one of the teams.”

When asked about Ash, he said, “I don’t want to talk abut the money involved but Madhuri is definitely on board for Dance Premier League.”

But talks around the floor say that Madhuri demanded much affordable price, so is Aishwayra lost it out.

Kareena experienced the kindness of her co-star during the shooting schedule of Main Aur Mrs Khanna in Melbourne. Both the actors are friends and were always seen cracking jokes and laughing on the sets of the film. During their stay in Melbourne, Bebo used to go for shopping when shooting for the day is done. One day when she went for shopping, Salman accompanied her. At one store, when Kareena was headed to pay the bills after picking things for her, family, and friends, she was surprised to know that it’s already paid.

Finding Salman smiling wide, Kareena found who has made the sweet gesture to her. Salman also gifted a rare bag worth Rs 2.5 lakh to her, which she has sported in the film too.

Aishwarya Rai suffering from swine flu?

Actress Aishwarya Rai is down with a ‘chest infection’ and ‘flu-like symptoms’ and her father-in-law, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, is worried.

‘Aishwarya has taken ill and is down with chest infection and flu like symptoms. She had a high fever yesterday, but is settling down today,’ he posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com Saturday from Singapore.

‘It’s worrying to be so far away from children and not be there to look after them. Yes, they are mature and married and responsible, but children will always remain children,’ he added. Aishwarya is married to Bachchan’s son Abhishek.

The 66-year-old veteran is in Singapore to look after his friend and Samajwadi Party chief Amar Singh, who underwent medical treatment there.

‘I stay back till he (Amar Singh) is sound enough to travel back,’ he wrote.

Apparently Bachchan also is suffering from a ’strained back’.

The idea was proclaimed ludicrous by the director himself who said it he was still in the middle of considering different ideas and projects and hasn't finalised a thing! He also laughed off the idea that Shaan would be part of his next project if any. Hmmm... seems like the superstar did not give Shoaib an easy time on the sets of KKL. Could it be it's because he did so little to support the film's rocky progression after its release? So who will it be?

New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has been selected as a jury member at the International Emmy Awards for the fourth consecutive year.

The award function will be held in New York in November.
"I am honoured to be a part of the International Emmy awards 2009 jury and feel humbled representing my country on this international stage," said Ghai, who directed box office hits like "Pardesh" and "Taal".

Holding high hopes for India, Ghai said in a statement: "It is my dream to see India too being nominated for these awards and I hope my dream comes true soon."

Bollywood stars hosting dinner for Julia Roberts in India

Some Bollywood stars are flying about 1200 kilometers north to Pataudi (India) to host a dinner in honor of Julia Roberts, who is currently shooting for “Eat, Play, Love”, according to reports.

These reportedly include Filmfare award winners Saif Ali Khan (Hum Tum), Kareena Kapoor (Jab We Met), Sharmila Tagore (Aradhana), etc. Tagore, who is chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of India, has reportedly already met Roberts. Government regulatory body CBFC is “responsible for certifying the films produced in India as well as outside the country suitable for public exhibition”.

Meanwhile, acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has urged Roberts to give some of her time and resources by launching a charity for the people of Pataudi and surrounding area in Haryana where she is spending about three weeks. Seeing her enthusiastic support for programs for nurturing and caring of world children in the past, a children’s charity would be a good start, Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested.

Gurgaon, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi was named Icon of the Year, while actors Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan bagged the youth icon awards in the entertainment field at a glittering award ceremony here.

Priyanka beat Katrina Kaif to the top spot and Hrithik left behind actor-director Farhan Akhtar at the inaugural edition of the India Youth Icon Awards organised jointly by Wizcraft Entertainment and electronics major Videocon at the Leela Kempinski Hotel here Friday night.

Rahul Gandhi, however, was not present to receive his award. Priyanka, who walked the red carpet, said being a youth icon meant a lot.

“Youth icon is a huge word. Today’s generation, my generation is a very impatient one. It wants everything fast and mediocrity doesn’t work for this generation. They are quick to dismiss something that doesn’t work for them. So to be a youth icon for this generation, which has very high standards, feels great,” Priyanka told IANS before the awards were announced.

The awards are aimed to recognise and reward individual excellence and exemplary achievement in the genres of business, sports, entertainment, media, social welfare and justice and technology.

In other categories, the winners included shooter Abhinav Bindra (sports), author Chetan Bhagat (the arts) and actor Rahul Bose (social justice and welfare).

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was graced with the Global Face of the Year award, while Deepika Padukone was named the Fashion Icon of the Year.

New Delhi, Eight decades and 30,000 songs later her voice continues to inspire a nation. As Lata Mangeshkar turns 80 on Monday, Sep 28, everyone in Bollywood queued up to wish her.

The Bharat Ratna awardee, who has lent her voice to songs in over 20 Indian languages, is known for her quest for perfection and undying spirit.

From light classical music to film songs and from ghazals to bhajans and pop, she has sung a variety of numbers. Having worked with almost all top music composers and singers in the industry, Lata has also featured in the Guinness Book of Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

Yash Chopra: On the occasion of her 80th birthday, I would like to wish Lataji, who has had a long-lasting relationship with Yash Raj Films, happiness, happiness and more happiness with a sincere prayer that she remain forever young.

Karisma Kapoor: I would like to wish Lataji a very happy birthday. The songs that she has sung for my grandfather don’t need any explanations. I just want to ask her: how does she still sing so melodiously even at this age?

Prasoon Joshi: My best wishes to Lataji on her birthday. I feel so fortunate that my entry in Bollywood was marked by a song sung by her. I wrote my first song for her, which was the title track of “Lajja”. It was totally a dream come true. Then my luck again favoured me when I wrote “Luka chhupi” for her in the film “Rang De Basanti”. I feel extremely humbled to write songs for someone as great as her.

Kunal Kohli: What can one say about a living legend like Lataji and who am I to say something? I don’t think a word has been created to describe her and her contribution to Hindi film music. My best wishes to her for a long and healthy life.

Mohit Chauhan: I give my heartiest congratulations to the melody queen. I wish more and more years added to her life. Since childhood I have been listening to her songs and she is still my favourite singer.

Sunidhi Chauhan: Words can’t express what I feel about her. I only wish that she lives for ever and ever.

Kailash Kher: She is a goddess in human form. Whatever she has achieved till now and the way she sings even till today is just miraculous. A normal person can’t do that. I won’t call her just a singer; she is music to me. She is a blessing to the nation and all Indians should hope and pray for her long life and good health for many years to come. I wish her a long and healthy life.

Manoj Bajpayee: May she live and sing for another 1,000 years. I doubt we will ever have another Lataji. Her voice is a miracle of god. A very happy birthday to her.

Mirzapur (Haryana), Sep 27 (IANS) It is a village market scene. Donkeys carrying loads of earthen pots pass by, a few loitering cows are munching on grass, camels and goats are by the roadside - and next to a chai stall is Hollywood star Julia Roberts chatting with her co-star, shooting for "Eat Pray Love", as the hot Indian sun beats down.

The Pretty Woman was shooting Sunday with co-star Richard Jenkins for director Ryan Murphy's film in this Haryana village, around eight km from Pataudi, where she shot her earlier scenes.

Roberts, 41, was wearing loose green pyjamas and had wrapped a green printed stole around her. Her blonde hair was tied in a pony tail. Jenkins was in t-shirt and trousers.

"We are not going to Cherrapunji (Meghalaya) for the other scenes as was scheduled earlier, but are heading to Bali," a source close to the film unit told IANS at the scene.

"The Bali shoot will be our last outdoor shooting spot," the source said, adding that they would wrap up shooting in November. The film is expected to be released in 2011, she added.

Meanwhile, Roberts after giving one shot went to her vanity van. She emerged after a while and posed for the shutterbugs present, waved to them and went to give another shot.

An inadvertent interruption to the shooting had everyone on the sets guffawing.

Just as director Ryan Murphy said "Rolling camera" for a shot, two donkeys started braying. Everybody laughed and some unit hands went to shoo the animals. The donkeys were not part of the village scene. They were tied outside a farmer's house adjacent to the set.

That was not the end of it.

Just as the donkeys shut up, a dog started up a whine.

The unit hands incharge of crowd management went "shoo", "chup", to make the crowd shut up.
